Neurographic Art- Patterns and Zentangle

Neurographic Art

Intuitive line drawing + mindful reflection. Students express stress, anxiety, or emotion through movement and pattern. It can be used as a weekly journal or a quiet warm-up. Make it more complicated by having them add patterns, or zentangle patterns.

The technique we will use was created by Dr. Pavel Piscarey, Neurographic art uses drawing freeform lines or 'neuro lines. ' These are meant to enable the connection between the conscious and unconscious, gaining access to the inner self by using a specific algorithm or method that is individual.

  Neurographic Art

  • Neurographic art is a simple way to work with the subconscious mind through drawing. This creative method stimulates new neural pathways by combining art and psychology. Simply stated, connected neurons process information received.

  • For this exercise you think of a word or something you want to manifest.

  • Here is a quick video to show you the process.

Now we are going to try it out.

  • Step one: using a permanent marker, create a continuous line over the entire piece of paper that loops, swirls and makes shapes in 30 seconds.

  • Step two: add more shapes and round out all shapes so there are no sharp corners.

  • Step three: color each shape by shading with color pencils or painting with watercolor.

  • Step four: take a photo of your finished piece and share it.
